Overview: The NordicTrack C 12.9 in one of several front drive ellipticals redesigned for the new model year. It joins the Commercial 9.9 and top end Commercial 14.9, all improved with new special features and capabilities not present on previous models.
Let’s take a look at some of the outstanding features..
Heart Rate Monitoring
The Commercial 12.9 gives dual cardio grips to measure your heart rate, helping you stay in your ideal zone for your workouts.
Touch Screen Display
All of the new front drive models, including the base Commercial 9.9 model, come with Smart HD touch screens, so you can not only see all of your stats but also work out virtually and train anywhere in the world via Google maps.
The Commercial 12.9 has a 10″ touch screen, up from and 7″ on the base Commercial 9.9, while the Commercial 14.9 has a 14″ touch screen.
iFit Technology
One of the hallmarks of the ICON Fitness brand, the Commercial 12.9 comes equipped with iFit, which is a suite of tools including additional customized workouts on top of the built in ones, tracking and goal setting capability and Google map integration…you can literally choose any location in the world and watch it unfold right on your machine or your tablet.
Other Great Features
The list of features is almost endless on the Commercial 12.9, but here are the best ones that we haven’t mentioned yet: a heavy 30 lb. flywheel, 24 resistance levels, easy assembly, up to 20 degrees of incline, Bluetooth music compatibility, 20″ power adjustable stride, AutoBreeze fan, oversized pedals and a pretty good warranty.
NordicTrack Commercial 12.9 Test Drive
NordicTrack has really done their part in improving their front drive models this year. All are nicely enhanced with new features and touches which are sure to satisfy most users.
The dual grips are great for those of you who like to keep your heart rate in the ideal zone. You get plenty of workouts to choose from. As we mentioned there are a whopping 50 on the machine itself, but then with iFit, which requires a small yearly subscription (first year is sometimes free!), you get a ton more, so you can do a different workout every time you are on the machine. Add to that 24 different resistance levels and up to a 20 degree incline, and you can really get a full body workout that’s never the same from one workout to the next.
Speaking of iFit, in our opinion it is well worth the nominal yearly fee for what you are getting. The Google maps alone are worth that price, as you can pick a spot anywhere and it’s if you are there training. Plus you get tracking, sharing and goal setting as well as the workouts we mentioned above.
The 10″ Smart HD touch screen is bright and user friendly, and you can see everything unfold right in front of you while you work out which really helps the time go by for those of you who need a little extra push to keep you on the machine longer.
The best part of the NordicTrack C 12.9 is the fact that you can set it up within minutes right out of the box. Controls are easy to use and intuitive, and transport wheels make it very easy to move around.
We enjoyed our workout on the C 12.9 immensely, as there is nothing missing on this machine.
Conclusion
The Commercial 12.9 is a great choice if you are in the market for an elliptical trainer under $1,500 with plenty of features and capabilities. It has tons of workout options, heart rate monitoring, adjustable stride, lots of resistance levels, a heavy flywheel and iFit technology. That’s a lot of features for the price you are paying.
