Overview: The EFX 245 elliptical represents the first major break into some of the higher end technology Precor has developed for their popular line of fitness equipment. The 245 comes with a touchscreen display, motorized CrossRamp technology, and lever style adjustment controls that will make you feel like you’re in the neighborhood fitness club. Retailing at $3,699, the EFX 245 introduces a few of Precor’s high end features right into your own home.

Here are some of the highlights of our Precor EFX 245 review…

Workout Accelerators

The EFX 245 has received a bump in the number of available preset workouts compared to other models in the line, a nice step up from the base 221 and 222 ellipticals. Workout Accelerators use your data from these presets in order to suggest ways to spice them up, such as increasing the resistance or total time. This feature helps ensure that each time you climb onto the elliptical, your workout will be new and exciting. The Workout Accelerators are one of my favorite features in the EFX line and they’re even more valuable now with more presets to work with.

CrossRamp and Variable Stride Geometry are the center of the technological suite on the EFX 245. CrossRamp lets you change the path the elliptical follows through 10 degrees of adjustability, dialing in specific muscle groups in your lower body. Precor has put a lot of thought into ensuring that you get a sustainably efficient workout each time you use the machine and CrossRamp is the culmination of those efforts. Just like on the EFX 225, you can adjust it with a touch of a button rather than manually..

Customizable Touch Screen Display

The EFX 245 is the first elliptical in the EFX line available with Precor’s 7-inch acrylic LCD touch screen display. The display is fully customizable, allowing you to display the workout metrics that are important to you. The screen will also display music controls and charge your USB device when in use.

Multiple Users

The EFX 245 has received a few upgrades when it comes to customized User IDs. Unlike the entry level models, the 245 allows you to store personalized information for up to 4 users. Your user ID will store biometric data such as your age, height, and weight as well as data from your previous workouts. This data is then used to make personalized suggested workouts based on your chosen goals. You can also save your favorite workouts for quick access later.

Guru Test Drive

The EFX 245 is focused on putting Precor’s technological advantages at your disposal. The workout features available through the touchscreen display can be a little daunting at first, but once you learn your way around the menus, you’ll realize how powerful the 245 can be.

CrossRamp is fully motorized, moving efficiently through eight levels of motion. The Workout Accelerators ensured that I was never bored with my workouts, no matter how much time I spent with the machine every day. In addition, after you choose specific workout goals, such as weight loss or cardio capacity, the EFX 245 will suggest workouts based on the data stored by your user ID. The technology loaded into the 245 all works together seamlessly, really making you feel like you have a team around you helping you work towards your fitness goals.

The same quality of construction present in the entire EFX line is present in the 245. The frame and weldings are solid and confidence inspiring, the touch screen feels and looks expensive, and the footpads follow their set paths smoothly and quietly. The EFX 245 did not rock back and forth, even during some of my more intense sessions. Precor has included a lifetime warranty on the frame, five years on the wear items, and three years on the display to ensure that you can keep using the 245 for years to come.

Final Thoughts:

I had a hard time finding fault with the EFX 245. All of Precor’s strongest technologies make an appearance, the touchscreen is a handsome upgrade, and despite all of the different features in play, it all works together as a coherent package. Combined with Precor’s typical attention to detail and quality in the construction of their products, the EFX 245 is a tough machine to beat. If you’re looking to bring gym quality workouts into your living room, it’s hard to think of a better place to look than this.

Are there cheaper machines that can offer similar workouts, features, durability, etc.? Absolutely. But if you have the budget and are looking for a top of the line gym quality machine, this is it.
