Overview: The HIIT Trainer Pro is a new hybrid elliptical from ProForm offering high intensity interval workouts that help you reach your fitness goals faster. This model improves upon the base trainer with a 10″ touch screen display, heavier flywheel and more built in workouts.
Let’s take a look at some of the best features on the new ProForm HIIT Pro Trainer…
Effective HIIT Workouts
The main selling point of this elliptical, as the name suggests, is high intensity interval training, which is becoming more and more popular these days. This gives you full body training that helps you build strength and burn calories in a relatively short amount of time.
With 34 different workout to choose from and 26 different resistance levels, you can literally do a different workout every time you step on the machine.
Enhanced Display
The HIIT Trainer Pro comes with a beautiful 10″ Smart HD touch screen, an upgrade from the 7″ backlit display on the base HIIT Trainer, which provides all of the important workout feedback in an easy to read format.
It also has a internet capability, so you can watch videos, check out your social pages or do anything else you like to do online.
iFit Coach Technology
The new trainer includes the latest version of iFit Coach, which gives you access to an unlimited amount of workouts designed by professional trainers, workout tracking and sharing, nutrition advice and Google map integration to choose any location in the world to train on.
iFit maps and data appear right on the screen itself, taking your workouts to the next level.
Note that if you see a SMART label on the machine that means you get iFit Coach free for one year. If that’s the case, it’s definitely worth buying as the program gives you a ton of interactivity and makes your workout that much more enjoyable.
Advanced Heart Rate Monitoring
In addition to the pulse grips located on the handlebars, you also get a free wireless heart rate monitor for more accurate readings. It syncs automatically with your machine via Bluetooth. (Note that the base model does not have this feature)
Compact Design
Both HIIT Trainers are very compact to fit more easily in your home gym. They are only 66.7″ long and 29.25″ wide, significantly smaller than most elliptical trainers. As such, they are ideal for smaller spaces.
The ProForm HIIT Trainer Pro Test Drive
We tested out the base model, which is essentially the same machine as the Pro version save for a few features. Both machines have the multi-function handlebars, oversized pedals, 10″ vertical/5″ horizontal elliptical path and interval training workouts.
The main difference between the base and Pro versions is that, as we mentioned, the Pro model has a 10″ touch screen with internet rather than a basic display. You also get a couple more workouts and resistance levels, a heavier flywheel and wireless heart rate monitoring.
So the HIIT Trainer Pro definitely has more to offer if the additional $500-$600 is within your budget. If not by all means go for the base model.
Getting back to our review, we were able to get a great interval training workout on the HIIT Trainer. It is very similar to the Bowflex Max Trainer, in that it combines an elliptical and a stepper in one machine. It takes a little getting used to, but once you do the motion feels very natural and comfortable.
We really liked the multigrip handles, something you don’t find often, which allows you to change up your hand position on the moving handlebars. You can grab on at a number of different angles, so you can find the ideal one for you based on how you like to train.
We tried many of the 30+ built in workouts, as well as some interesting ones from the iFit Coach library, and all of them were appropriately challenging. You can also just change up the 26 resistance levels manually if you prefer. But with so many different workouts to choose from you’ll definitely find some that you love.
Speaking of iFit, it’s worth the nominal yearly fee for all of the features you get. The Google maps alone are incredible, as you can literally choose any location you want and it’s like you are actually working out there. Plus you get to track your workouts and monitor your progress, personalized nutrition recommendations and a lot more.
Other great features include an integrated tablet holder, iPod compatibility, CoolAire fan, water bottle holder and transport wheels for portability.
This one is sure to be a winner, as it improves upon the extremely popular Bowflex Trainer, one of the best selling hybrid elliptical machines on the market.
ProForm HIIT Trainer Pro Review – Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a really great calorie burning, interval training workout, the ProForm HIIT Trainer Pro just might be the elliptical for you.
It has tons of workouts, smooth/quiet motion, iFit technology, advanced touch screen with internet, impact-reducing pedals and commercial gauge steel construction.
If you don’t need the touch screen, check out the base model as well.
