Overview: The ProForm Pro 9.9 was introduced towards the end of 2016 as a new 2017 elliptical. It takes over as the base model in the very popular front-drive Pro series, along with the Pro 12.9 and top of the line Pro 16.9. The most appealing features are the increased stride length, iFit Coach technology and easy assembly, along with a nice array of workouts to choose from.

Let’s take a look at some of the best features…

Extensive Workout Collection

ProForm is known for the vast number of workouts built into their machines, and the new 9.9 is no exception. You get a whopping 32 workout apps, including 16 performance based programs and 16 calorie based programs. These programs not only help you reach your fitness goals but also target different muscle groups.

New Stride Length

The ProForm 9.9 is the first entry level machine to feature a 21″ adjustable stride, up from 20″ on the previous model. This ensures that the elliptical will accommodate all sized users, and you can power adjust it to fit your ideal stride. You no longer have to adjust it manually like on some of the previous models.

iFit Coach Technology

This is the latest version of the company’s popular fitness program, giving you access to Google maps so you can choose any location worldwide. The elliptical will actually adjust itself automatically to match the terrain that you pick. You also get access to unlimited personal trainer designed workouts as well as track and share all of your results. All you need is your tablet or phone to access it. Keep in mind that there is a yearly membership fee, but it’s well worth the price for what you are getting.

Easy Assembly

Like many of the newer models, the ProForm Pro 9.9 comes ready to use right out of the box, so you don’t have to spend hours setting everything up with confusing instructions. Within minutes the elliptical is all set up and you can be working out right away. This is a nice change from previous entry level models that required hours of setup time, even with two people involved.

Other Great Features

The Pro 9.9 give you accurate heart rate readings with a wireless chest strap included, up to 10 degrees of power incline, multi position hand grips, iPod compatibility for your music, leveling feet, water bottle holder and transport wheels. You also get a very solid warranty: lifetime frame, 3 years parts and 1 year labor.

ProForm Pro 9.9 Test Drive

The Pro 9.9 is very similar to the other models in the series, both of which we tested previously. The 12.9 and 16.9 have slightly heavier flywheels and feel slightly more solid. The only real difference between the machines lies in the incline (up to 20 degrees on the other models vs. 10 degrees here) and the consoles.

The Pro 9.9 has a 6″ backlit LED display, while the mid-level Pro 12.9 has a 7″ touch screen, and the top of the line Pro 16.9 has a 10″ touch display. Yes, a touch display is certainly much nicer, but you can get by just fine, and save a little money, with the LED display.

The elliptical feels very secure, the motion is very smooth, and there’s enough adjustability to get the perfect fit for every member of the family. As we mentioned, you get a 21″ power adjustable stride (1 more inch than the other models surprisingly), up to 10 degrees of incline and 24 resistance levels. Throw in the 32 workout apps and even more with iFit Coach, and you can literally do a different routine every single day. You’ll never get bored on this elliptical that’s for sure.

The Pro 9.9 is relatively quiet, especially for an entry-level machine. As promised we were able to set it up in less than five minutes, and that included the time it took us to get it out of the box itself. It’s easy to use, easy to move and overall was a very enjoyable experience.

For the casual user, this machine is perfect. The display provides all of the necessary feedback, but if you think you will be happier with a touch screen (and more incline capability) take a look at the Pro 12.9 and 16.9 as well.

Final Thoughts

The new Pro 9.9 is a nice addition to the series, giving you increased stride length, new iFit Coach training, multi position handgrips, tons of workouts and incline capability. For about $999 on sale it’s a great choice in the entry level field, giving you everything you could want in a home elliptical.
