Overview: The Bowflex BXE216 is one of two all new elliptical trainers from the popular brand. First introduced in 2017, they offer a traditional cardio option to go along with their hugely successful hybrid Max Trainers. There are a lot of nice features that should make these machines successful.

Let’s look at some of the best features…

Generous Stride Length

The BXE216 comes with a 22″ stride, which is quite impressive, especially for an elliptical in this price range. You typically find up to 20″, so the additional two inches will really allow you to open up your stride. Taller users will definitely appreciate this.

Advanced Cushioning System

The AdjustSelect Cushioning lets you choose which of three settings is most comfortable for you. You can also ramp up the incline up to 10% which allows you to target additional muscle groups in your legs and amp up your cardio training. Incline is a feature you don’t often find on ellipticals under $2000.

Extensive Workout Variety

The BXE216 comes with 11 built in workout programs, up from 9 on the base BXE116 model, as well as 25 different resistance levels to choose from. There’s fat burn, heart rate, 5K, intervals and more, giving you plenty of variety so you can choose a different program each time, or simply run a manual program and change your resistance levels as you go.

Tracking Capability

With the incorporated Bluetooth technology, you are able to sync your workouts via the Bowflex app and keep tabs on all of your workouts. That way you can set fitness goals for yourself, share your results with friends and family and make sure you are progressing from one workout to the next.

Other Nice Features

The BXE216 Bowflex elliptical also comes with a heavy 35 lb. flywheel, a heavy max weight capacity of 400 lbs., a Burn Rate console for calories and a 2 year warranty.

Bowflex BXE216 Test Drive

There’s a small boutique health club down the block from us and the owner told me they got the BXE216 model in for their members. We were more than happy to oblige, as we were anxious to see what these new ellipticals were all about.

The company released four machines as part of their new Results Series: two ellipticals and two treadmills. They’ve never done ellipticals before (they had treadmills years ago) so this is a brand new venture for them. Anyway, onto our review.

The BXE216 is the upgraded version of the BXE116, but as far as the workout, motion, settings, etc. they are essentially the same. This one has a few more resistance levels, a few more programs and some nicer finishes…that’s about it.

At any rate, this one felt pretty good getting on. It has a very high max weight capacity and feels much sturdier than some of the other machines in this price range. It’s not gym quality but it’s not too far off.

The console itself is a bit busy, but easy to navigate. There are Quick Keys for incline and resistance. You get four different user profiles. You can see all your stats on an easy to read LCD screen. One of the cool features on the BXE216 is the Burn Meter, which shows you how many calories you are burning per minute based on your inputs, and shows you different target zones to hit.

The workouts are good, especially the interval ones that the company is known for. You can definitely work up a good sweat, especially when the incline and resistance levels are ramped up to their higher settings.

Any negatives? The only thing we don’t like about the Bowflex ellipticals is the warranty. It’s only two years which is not a lot of coverage. If you do opt for either model look into an extended protection plan just for peace of mind.

Final Thoughts

The BXE216 is a nice new elliptical with interesting features such as the Burn Meter, incline capability, workout tracking and adjustable pedal comfort. If you can find it on sale at $1799 it’s not a bad option, and we prefer this one to the lower priced BXE116 because of its enhanced features. Plus this one has free shipping at the moment.
