Overview: The Bowflex TreadClimber TC100 is one of two hybrid cardio machines in the series. It offers the health benefits of three machines in one: an elliptical, a treadmill and a stepper, and provides a quick and easy way to burn a lot of calories with much less impact on your joints.

Let’s look at some of the best features…

Faster Calorie Burn

One of the most touted features of the Bowflex TreadClimbers is the fact that you can burn 2.5x as many calories per minute as you can on other cardio machines. According to the two studies cited, you can burn 423 calories every half hour on the TreadClimber, as opposed to 191 on the stepper and 165 on the treadmill. The elliptical was not included in that analysis for some reason.

So for those looking to lose weight and tone up, the TC100 can be a very effective tool.

Three Machines in One

The Bowflex TC100 is essentially three different cardio machines combined into one, and as such gives you the benefits of all of them. You have the smooth motion of the treadmill, the climbing cardio workout of the stepper and the low impact benefits of the elliptical motion. So it’s really the best of all worlds.

Compact Design

Along with being three machines in one, the Bowflex TreadClimber TC100 is also very compact, taking up much less room than your typical elliptical or treadmill. It’s only 57″ long, which is at least 20″ shorter than your average cardio machine. For those with limited space, the TC100 is an ideal choice.

Other Great Features

The TC100 also has a fully backlit LCD display, heart rate monitoring, USB charger, water bottle holder, tablet holder and a free weight loss guide for you.

Bowflex TC100 Test Drive

We were lucky enough to get our hands on the TC100 and the TC200 at the same time, so our TreadClimber reviews would be more helpful for those considering the two models. They are similar, but the TC200 has more advanced features and capabilities.

The TC100 is relatively easy to put together out of the box. You can get it assembled if you want, but it’s definitely doable with two people. It has a silver frame with black console and black treadles. The treadles are the platforms that you walk on, which are like a treadmill cut right down the middle.

It does take some time to get used to the motion of the machine, especially for those who are used to an elliptical or a treadmill. You walk forward on the revolving belt as you do on a treadmill, but the treadles rise up as you do so in sort of an elliptical pattern…so it’s odd at first, but you do get used to it relatively quickly.

Once you’re up and running the Bowflex TreadClimber TC100 gives you a decent workout. You can only go up to 4 mph so it’s not incredibly challenging, but you can work up a sweat over time and definitely burn some calories. Note that there aren’t any built in workouts here like you’d find on a comparably priced elliptical…only the TC200 comes with workout programs.

The display on both models is very basic, but provides the necessary stats like your speed, time, calories and distance. The TC200 has Bluetooth capability to track and share your workout results, but the TC100 TreadClimber does not currently offer that.

You can measure your heart rate using the contact grips, but only the TC200 has wireless heart rate capability. The extra touches are nice on the machine, including a place to rest your tablet, a water bottle holder and the USB charging port.

All in all, the TC100 is a decent machine. We definitely preferred the TC200, as it is a much more solid machine (about 50 pounds heavier) and provides many more features, including workouts, slightly higher max speed, Bluetooth workout tracking, free wireless chest strap and a better warranty.

However, it is $1000 more than the TC100, so you have to decide if those features are worth the extra money.

The TreadClimbers are extremely popular with those looking for a very low impact, effective cardio workout without having to spend a lot of time to get results. Their compact design along with the combination of three machines in one makes them very appealing for home gym use.

We would opt for the TC200 if we had to choose between the two, simply because it gives you much more to work with. However, if money is an object the Bowflex TreadClimber TC100 is perfectly fine for burning calories and getting you into shape.
