Overview: We conducted our ProForm 720E elliptical review at the same time as its sister model, the 520E elliptical, as they are pretty much the same machine save for a few minor differences. So if you are looking in this price range check them both out before deciding.
Let’s get started….
The 720 E is a front drive elliptical machine, a slightly upgraded version of the 520E, part of ProForm’s Endurance Series. With an affordable price tag and a decent set of features, the machine is designed to cater to the needs of beginner and intermediate level users.
Here are some of the key features of these ellipticals:
Power Ramp
The 720 E has an adjustable power ramp for incline training, something the 520E does not have. The angle of the incline can be increased from 0 to 20 degrees, which allows you to target different muscle groups in your lower body.
Adjustable Stride
The machine has a 19″ stride length, which can be adjusted to suit the needs of different users. At this price an adjustable stride up to 19″ is pretty good.
iFit Ready
The Endurance 720 E is iFit Coach ready, which means you have plenty of choices in terms of workout programs. You can create a customized workout program based on your fitness needs, set your machine to simulate running trails and terrains from different parts of the world via Google maps, or choose from a large collection of workout programs designed by professional fitness trainers. You can even work on weight loss with fitness expert Jillian Michaels. It’s very cool…it’s not free, but well worth the subscription in our opinion.
Digital Resistance Levels
There are 20 digital resistance levels. You can start with the easiest level and slowly increase the intensity of your workout. Variation is key in getting the results you want.
Upper Body Workout Arms
There are two easy-to-grip upper body workout arms that help you get a total body workout experience. They also have a built-in heart rate monitor to help you keep track of your heart rate and stay in the optimal training zone.
Multimedia Entertainment Options
There is a built-in adjustable tablet holder where you can put your tablet or phone and access all of your files and videos. There is an integrated music system into which you can plug your iPod or MP3 player and listen to your favorite songs. There is also a built-in USB charging station to charge your phone or MP3 player.
Apart from these, the 720 E has plenty of other features like built-in water bottle holder, transport wheels, and a 5” backlit display.
The ProForm Endurance 720E Test Drive
We always like to test these out for ourselves, so here are our ProForm 720E reviews…
One thing you’ll notice is that the 720 E’s stability and durability makes it stand out from most other machines in its price range. It is built with high quality, commercial gauge steel and has a 325 lb. weight capacity. The 20 lb. flywheel, one of the heaviest in its class, offers more stability and delivers a smooth and fluid pedal movement.
With features like adjustable stride length, iFit compatibility, and adjustable foot pedals, the machine offers everything a beginner or an intermediate level user might need at a very affordable price. It also comes with a lifetime frame warranty and a two-year and one-year warranty on parts and labor respectively, which is pretty decent for a machine in its class.
It only has a 5” backlit display, which is pretty standard in budget-friendly cross trainers these days. A full color display or an android browser might have been an excellent addition, but it is not reasonable to expect considering the machine’s price tag. Take a look at the top of the line Endurance 920E if touch screen and internet is something you are interested in.
As far as the workout (which is the most important part) the 720 E is very easy to use. It has a small footprint so it’s not going to take up a lot of room and it’s also easy to store. It has adjustable leveling feet, which makes it easy to use the machine even on uneven surfaces. The stride length, ramp incline, and the foot pedals can all be adjusted to accommodate the needs of different users. So, the machine can be used by the entire family.
The machine is quite heavy and is difficult to move around, even with the transport wheels. It also takes quite a while to get it fully assembled. If you are someone who is mechanically inclined, you could do it yourself. Otherwise, you might need a helping hand.
Final Thoughts
The Endurance 720 E is sturdy, budget friendly, and has a nice set of features. With plenty of adjustable features, it is highly adaptable to the needs of different users. It also has plenty of multimedia entertainment options to make your workout sessions a lot more enjoyable. Overall, it gives great value for your money and is an excellent buy at this price range.
You can check out the new ProForm 720E on the official site and see if it it the right elliptical for you. Make sure you compare it to the 520E as well as the other available models.
