The Sole E98 is a light commercial grade elliptical, meaning it is equally at home in a gym setting as it is in your home gym. It has a heavy flywheel (quiet and smooth), articulating pedals for minimizing impact, and a commercial-grade display showing you all of your relevant workout stats.
Power Adjustable Incline
You can adjust your incline with the touch of a button, making your workout harder or easier as you proceed. This can really help you target different muscle groups in the legs.
Generous Stride Length
The Sole E98 gives you a fixed 20″ stride which is ideal for most users. If you want more adjustability take a look at the newer 95S model, which gives you an 18″ all the way up 24″ stride. But the stride on the E98 should suffice in most cases.
Nice Variety of Workouts
You get 10 built in workouts including interval, calories, heart rate, fat burn and distance, as well as the Fit Test Program that you won’t find on other models. Sole E98 Test Drive
We gave the new Sole E98 a spin, as it was recently redesigned after many years of remaining the same machine. It’s definitely one of the best Sole ellipticals, a step above the E95 and E95s, which are currently out of stock but may come back at some point.
It gives you a heavier flywheel which you’ll notice if you’re able to compare it to the lower priced models. A heavy flywheel equates to smoother and quieter motion, so that’s one thing that you’re paying extra for as you move up in an elliptical lineup.
All of the new upper-end models have touch screens, and the one on the E98 is large and intuitive. The E98 also gives you up to 40 resistance levels, which is something it didn’t on previous iterations. We like that increased capability, although most people will be fine with the 20 that you get on other models.
One of the highlights of the Sole ellipticals is that you don’t need to have a subscription to use it like you do with NordicTrack, ProForm, BowFlex and other brands, which is good unless you like those guided live and on-demand workouts. There is a Sole app that you can tap into but it’s definitely not as extensive. Personally I like the interactive programs, but since I belong to a gym I’m OK not paying an additional monthly fee to use my elliptical.
The E98 has a 400 lb max user capacity, sand it does feel more like something we would use at the gym than the other Sole ellipticals we have tested.So I would look here if multiple people will be using it or if any users are on the heavier side.
