Overview: The Sole E98 is the company’s top end model, providing a gym quality workout in a residential exercise machine. It features a heavy flywheel, ergonomic articulating pedals, smooth motion and a unique Fitness Test program that adjusts to your heart rate for maximum results.

Let’s take a look at some of the best features…

Durable Construction

The Sole E98 is a light commercial grade elliptical, meaning it is equally at home in a gym setting as it is in your home gym. It has a heavy flywheel (quiet and smooth), articulating pedals for minimizing impact, and a commercial-grade display showing you all of your relevant workout stats.

Power Adjustable Incline

You can adjust your incline with the touch of a button, making your workout harder or easier as you proceed. This can really help you target different muscle groups in the legs.

Generous Stride Length

The Sole E98 gives you a fixed 20″ stride which is ideal for most users. If you want more adjustability take a look at the newer 95S model, which gives you an 18″ all the way up 24″ stride. But the stride on the E98 should suffice in most cases.

Nice Variety of Workouts

You get 10 built in workouts including interval, calories, heart rate, fat burn and distance, as well as the Fit Test Program that you won’t find on other models. This technology automatically changes the pedal speed in response to your heart rate, a great way to gauge whether or not your fitness level is improving over time.

Bluetooth Tracking

Now present on all new Sole ellipticals, including the popular E95 model, is Bluetooth tracking capability. Using this you can transfer all of your workout info to the Sole app or one of your favorite fitness apps to track your results, set goals for yourself or share everything with family and friends.

Other Great Features

In addition to everything above, you also get a 400 lb. weight capacity, wireless heart rate monitoring, plenty of resistance levels, a nice 10.1″ TFT LCD display and a very solid warranty: lifetime on frame, 5 years on parts and electronics and 2 years labor.

Sole E98 Test Drive

We gave the new Sole E98 a spin, and it’s definitely a great machine. We didn’t see too much of a difference between the E95 and E98, although the latter does feel sturdier and stronger. Taking a closer look at the specs, they are essentially the same machines, but the E98 is built to be more of a commercial unit. It does have a heavier flywheel, and it’s heavier overall, but beyond that we didn’t experience anything that would make us want to pay an extra $700 for this elliptical trainer.

Still, if you want something rock solid that will stand up to heavy use, it’s definitely a great choice and one of Sole’s best ellipticals for sure. The workout variety is good, especially with the Fit Test Program. The motion is very smooth and very quiet. Heart rate monitoring is accurate, especially if you use a wireless monitor. Syncing your workouts via Bluetooth takes some getting used to but once you have it down, it’s vcery easy to use.

The E98 certainly feels like something we would use at the gym, and something that will last for years with very little maintenance required.

Conclusion

In our opinion, the Sole E98 is a very good choice. You’re getting a commercial grade elliptical at a much better price, with incline, heavy flywheel, smooth motion, plenty of workouts, Fit Test Program and Bluetooth tracking to keep you headed towards your fitness goals.

Also take a look at the E95 model just to compare the two and see which one appeals to you most. Both are great options for your home gym.
