Overview: The Sole E95s is one of the newest elliptical machines in the lineup with an adjustable stride from 18″ to an industry-leading 24″, allowing much more freedom of motion and accommodating users of all sizes. So far it is a welcome addition to the lineup, and incorporates Sole’s new Bluetooth workout tracking.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights…

Power Adjustable Stride

We have to start off with the USP of this new model, the power adjustable stride. It’s a step up from the stride on the regular E95, which offers 20-22″. This new model offers 18″ all the way up to 24″, which you typically find in ellipticals in the $2500 and up range. This allows you to vary your workouts to target different muscle groups. You can set it low to mimic a stepping motion or ramp it up to 24″ to simulate running.

Strong Construction

The Sole E95s elliptical is built with heavy 38mm steel construction, making it very durable and similar to high end machines you’d find in your gym. It can support up to 400 pounds, which again is something you don’t typically find in sub $2000 ellipticals. So this one is built to last, no matter how intense your workouts are.

Oversized Pedals

Sole is known for their oversized cushioned pedals, as are designed with a 2 degree inward slope that reduces stress on the knees and ankles. This allows you to stay on the machine longer without having to worry about joint pain afterwards.

Bluetooth Technology

Several of Sole’s ellipticals and treadmills now feature Bluetooth wireless technology, which allows you to track and monitor your workouts by syncing them to Sole’s app or one of a handful of other popular fitness apps such as Apple Health. The ability to track your workouts was something the company has been lacking, so this is definitely a step in the right direction.

Strong Warranty

The Sole E95s comes with a strong warranty: Lifetime on the frame, 5 years on parts and electronics and 2 years in home labor. That’s a pretty good policy and better than what most manufacturers offer on their machines in this price range. You also get free shipping, no sales tax and a 30-day money back guarantee.

Sole E95s Elliptical Test Drive

We were lucky enough to get to try out one of these new machines. It’s similar to many of the new hybrid machines, which are like two or three machines in one. Depending on the model they are ellipticals as well as steppers, treadmills, skiers and/or recumbent bikes.

The Sole E95s is like an elliptical/treadmill hybrid, as once you open up your stride to 24″ it’s like you are running (unless you are 7 feet all in which case it’s still going to be an elliptical for you :). The difference between the Sole and most hybrids is this one feels like a high quality machine and the motion is smooth and natural (and quiet) at any stride length or resistance level.

We went through all of the workout programs, there’s 10 in all, and there’s something for everyone. All in all we had a very good workout and we enjoyed the flexibility of the stride length…although you can adjust it automatically while you work out, we enjoyed sticking to one motion for an extended period of time. But it really comes down to your personal preference.

We synced our workouts to our FitBit account, and watched it on our iPad as we worked out. It was nice to have this feature, which as we mentioned has been lacking on Sole exercise equipment.

Any negatives? We noticed that unlike the E95, E98 and other higher end models, the E95s does not have incline capability. Perhaps it had to be removed to accommodate the extended stride, we’re not entirely sure why it couldn’t also incline. But it really didn’t take away from our workouts.

Conclusion

The Sole E95s is a great new addition to the elliptical lineup, and is already receiving great reviews from experts and customers who have purchased it. You can check it out here to see if it has the specs you are looking for, and compare it to some of the other models as well.

If you’re in the market for a great elliptical with a generous adjustable stride, solid construction and comfortable, impact reducing pedals, the E95s is a good choice. And now that you can actually track your workouts and set goals for yourself with Bluetooth syncing, it’s even better than before.
