Overview: The Precor EFX 443 is one four ellipticals in the company’s more advanced Precision Series, a step up from the affordable entry-level Energy Series cross trainers. It comes with a very generous variable stride, a huge array of workout programs and more incline capability than most cardio machines on the market today.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the best features we discovered during our Precor EFX 443 review…

Incredible Incline Capability

One of the unique selling points of Precor ellipticals is the innovative CrossRamp technology, which allows for a wide range of incline angles for more challenging, muscle targeting workouts. The EFX 443 gives you 20 different levels to choose from, ranging from 5 degrees all the way up to 40 degrees, way more than you get on similar cross trainers. Ramping up the incline increases the cardio burn, and you can add up to 20 different resistance levels to make it even more difficult as your fitness level increases.

Plenty of Built In Workouts

The Precor EFX 443 comes with a whopping 40 workout programs, just like the top of the series EFX 447. There are 24 preset options with plenty of variability, plus you can add 16 custom workouts of your choosing. Plus, there are workout accelerators that allow you to ramp up your training even more.

Accurate Heart Rate Monitoring

The EFX 443 comes with grip and wireless heart rate monitoring capability, which means you can use a Polar compatible chest strap and measure your heart rate more accurately. This is great for keeping you in the ideal zone throughout your workout, and you can monitor your progress over time.

Customizable Display

The 443 comes with a large 7″ color touch display that you can personalize so it only shows the metrics that you are interested in. It also has a USB charger, headphone jack and volume controls for your music. Everything is laid out conveniently so you can easily make changes on the go and find everything that you need.

Precor EFX 443 Test Drive

One thing we can say about Precor is that they make very high quality cardio machines and have been doing so for years. They are an industry leader and innovator, and their elliptical trainers are as good as it gets.

The EFX 443 is essentially the same as the EFX 447, except it does not have moving handlebars. The entry level model in the Precision Series, the EFX 423, also does not have moving handlebars.

We’re not quite sure why they even make ellipticals without moving handlebars, but I guess there are those people out there who are just looking for a lower body workout and don’t want to work the arms. Who knows?

At any rate, besides the stationary arms, there’s a ton of great features on the EFX 443. For starters it’s built strong and durable, so it’s just like the machines you use at the club. The motion is very smooth and stable and transitioning from one incline level to the next is seamless…it’s motorized here, unlike some of the Energy series ellipticals where you have to change things manually.

You get a lot of incline levels to choose from, as well as resistance levels, so I suggest you start slow and just work up to the higher levels as they are quite challenging. Workout selection is great as well, as you get plenty of variety including hills, intervals, calories, distance, etc. Plus you can create 16 of your own workouts, which I highly recommend. I get more satisfaction out of completing my own workouts than doing the built in ones…but that’s just me.

Another huge plus is the variable stride length, which can be adjusted from 21 to 24 inches, meaning even the tallest of users can get a nice full stride. You can try out the 21 inches at the beginning to see if that is comfortable for you, then increase it to gauge how that feels.

You get a rock solid warranty on the Precor EFX 443, as well as all of the other ellipticals: lifetime on frame and welds, 10 years on parts and wear items, 3 years on the console and 1 year of labor. That’s just about as good as it gets in the industry.

Anything we didn’t love? Well, it would be nice to have the wireless chest strap included at that price, which is just under $5,000 when on sale. Would also be nice to have some app integration and workout tracking, but that only comes with the upper level models.

All in all, the EFX 443 is great…but we prefer the moving handlebars on the EFX 427 and EFX 447.

Precor EFX 443 Review – Final Thoughts

If you have the budget for it, the Precor EFX 443 is a very well made elliptical with great capability. You get an adjustable stride length, plenty of incline and resistance levels, an impressive array of built in programs with workout accelerators, heart rate monitoring and a rock solid warranty.

As we mentioned, you might prefer an elliptical with moving handlebars for an upper body workout. If that is the case, check out the base EFX 423 or the top EFX 447 models. If budget is a concern, all of the Energy Series elliptical besides the EFX 221 have moving handlebars, as do all of the top of the lineup Experience ellipticals.

Whichever model you choose, you really can’t go wrong with a Precor elliptical.
