Overview: The Precor EFX 835 is the higher-end model in the company’s elite Experience Series, with commercial grade construction, ideal biomechanics and great features including impressive incline and diverse workouts. At just under $7,500, it’s certainly not cheap, but for the deep-pocketed it would be a nice addition to any home gym.
Here are some of best features on this elliptical…
CrossRamp Technology
The EFX 835 features Converging Adjustable CrossRamp technology, an upgrade to the technology found on lower priced models. This closely mimics your natural stride, and gives you up to a 35 degree incline. As such you can target more muscle groups in the legs, while using the moving handlebars lets you add in an upper body workout.
Smooth Resistance System
You get 20 different levels of smooth resistance, and transitioning from one to the next is seamless. Increasing the resistance levels helps you build muscle as well as improve cardiovascular strength.
Diverse Workout Programs
The 835 comes with 15 different built in workout programs, including intervals, variety, performance, heart rate and weight loss. So there is something for everyone and you can challenge yourself from one workout to the next.
Other Great Features
Some of the other nice features include oversized pedals, water bottle and accessory holder, motion controls, QuickStart functionality, grip and wireless heart rate monitoring and a 350 lb. max weight capacity.
Precor EFX 835 Test Drive
We have the Precor EFX 835 in our gym, and the home model is exactly the same. The design is thin and sleek, in dark and light gray with light blue accents. The elliptical is extremely well built, and the company focuses on biomechanical design to ensure you are in the ideal position throughout your stride. You can really feel the difference, especially if you’ve ever used a cheap home elliptical before.
You can incline the 835 from 10 to 35 degrees, which helps you hit different muscle groups in your legs. It also makes it more challenging, as a hill workout requires more cardio output. Speaking of challenging, you get a nice array of workouts. There are intervals, cross country, glutes, cross training, Navy Fitness test and basic HRC heart rate, among others. You can definitely find workouts that appeal to you, and they will certainly help you reach your fitness goals.
Stride length is a fixed 21″, which is good for most users. There are also 20 different resistance levels to ramp up your manual workouts. As we mentioned, the handlebars move for an upper body workout, unlike the EFX 833 which has fixed handles only.
Did I have any complaints? Sure. I love this machine and use it often at the gym. But for the price it would be nice to get a touch screen console, and a wireless chest strap included for heart rate monitoring, like on the EFX 447 model.
Despite those missing things, it does have everything you need…diverse workouts, impressive incline, perfect biomechanics, smooth resistance. You won’t be disappointed with this one.
Final Thoughts:
Most of us simply can’t afford a $7,500 elliptical machine for our home. So using one at the gym will have to suffice. But if you are one of the lucky few who can, the Precor EFX 835 is a great choice.
