Overview: The Diamondback 1260Ef is one of two elliptical trainers sold by the company, a winner of numerous awards over the years for its durability and performance. With heart rate based programs and low impact design, it’s worth considering for your home gym.

Here are some of the best features…

Workout Diversity

You get a total of thirteen built in workouts, including 5 varied, 5 heart rate and 3 cross training programs. So there is plenty of diversity to keep your workouts challenging. Plus, the 1260 Ef is wireless compatible so you can use a Polar chest strap to get more accurate readings.

(Note that the new Diamondback 1060Ef elliptical is not wireless compatible.)

Personal Trainer Function

You can kick your workouts into high gear with the Personal Trainer option, walking you through a full body workout to target additional muscle groups. And with 20 different intensity levels, you can work your way up and challenge yourself to achieve more each time you train, helping you reach all of your fitness goals.

Incline Capability

The Diamondback 1260Ef also gives you 10 levels of incline to choose from for an even more intense workout. Hit more leg muscles and give yourself a more complete cardio workout by increasing the angle of the elliptical motion. The base 1060Ef does not offer incline capability.

Low Impact Design

One of the hallmarks of the Diamondback ellipticals is their ideal bio-mechanical design, putting you in the right position to maximize your results while minimizing impact on the knees and joints. This allows you to work out longer without the usual fatigue and pain that you sometimes experience with poorly designed elliptical trainers.

Other Great Features

You also get a large LED display, reading rack, comfort grips and a heavy 325 lb. weight capacity. There’s a solid warranty backing everything up, which speaks to the durability of these machines.

Diamondback 1260Ef Elliptical Test Drive

The 1260Ef has always been one of our favorite ellipticals. We like the fact that there are a lot of different workouts to choose from, especially the cardio based ones that automatically change the level of intensity to keep you in your ideal zone.

The Personal Trainer function is cool, similar to what you find on an Octane elliptical, and guides you through your workouts, hitting the upper and lower body muscles for a more complete routine.

The incline is also a nice touch, and something you don’t find often on many ellipticals, and not on the new 1060Ef model as we mentioned. You also get 20 levels of resistance to choose from to make your workouts even more challenging.

Overall the workout is very good. The motion is very smooth and natural, and the machine is relatively quiet. You get a 19″ fixed stride which should be comfortable for most users, but if you are on the taller side, over 6′, you might be more comfortable with an elliptical with a longer stride.

The LED display is large and bright, and gives you all of the relevant workout metrics such as calories burned, heart rate, time, distance, incline, intensity level and speed, among others.

Anything we didn’t like? Yes. Although the workout is great and there is plenty to choose from, the 1260Ef hasn’t really kept up with the latest technology. There is no tracking capability or connection to your smart phone or tablet.

More and more machines have this as standard these days, especially at this price level. Last we checked the Diamondback 1260Ef was on sale for just under $2,300, which is a bit pricey given the features and capabilities.

Still, if the workout itself is most important to you, this is a very solid choice that will give you very good workouts for years to come.

Diamondback 1260Ef Review – Final Thoughts

The Diamondback 1260Ef is a very good elliptical trainer that has won many awards over the years. It may not have all of the bells and whistles of some of the other machines out there, but as far as the effectiveness of the workout and program diversity, it definitely holds its own.

If you want something a little more compact with an adjustable stride rather than the fixed 19″ one here, take a look at the Diamondback 1060Ef. It’s a much newer model with a much smaller footprint and strides from 18″ to 23″. That one just may be a better option for your home gym.
