We conducted our Smooth RE 11.35 elliptical review at the same time as its mid-range model, the Smooth 11.55 review in order to provide a firmer grasp of the differences between the two. However, if you are stuck deciding between the two, definitely consider this one a little more heavily.

The Smooth RE 11.35 is a an entry level elliptical trainer, priced at around $799 when it’s on sale, in their new line that consists of the RE 11.35, RE 11.55, RE 13.75 and the RE 13.95, released in 2015. With gym level manufacturing and durability, but accessible at consumer level prices, Smooth is an underdog brand that is sure to impress. Its main demographic are beginner and intermediate level users.

Let’s take a look at some highlights of this machine:

Built in iFit technology

This fitness tracker, typically only found on ICON Fitness machines such as NordicTrack and ProForm, revolutionizes the way you work out. You can measure fitness by reviewing stats such as your distance, heart rate, speed, duration, favorite workouts, and more. You can also customize your own workout schedule and store your workout history online. The best part is with Google maps you can simulate working out anywhere in the world. It really adds some excitement to your workout.

Adjustable Power Stride

This machine has an adjustable power stride of 20-22 inches, which is great for a machine in this price range.

An Assortment of Workout Apps

With 30 built in workout apps and a 7-inch full color touch-screen, you will never feel bored or under-resourced on this machine.

Versatile Resistance Levels

This machine comes an impressive 24 digital resistance levels, whereas other machines in this price range usually come with fewer.

Multimedia Capability

If tracking your workouts isn’t your thing, there is also Android Browser capability built in for you so you can browse the internet as your workout breezes by. You can also plug your iPod in and blast your favorite workout music through its Intermix Acoustics Sound system.

Real-time heart-rate monitoring

Built into the machine are two dual-grip heart rate monitors that lets you know if you are in your target fat-burning zone. Also included is a wireless heart rate strap which enhances its accuracy.

Other additional features to note: CoolAire Workout fan, water bottle holder and transport wheels for optimal storage capabilities.

The Guru Test Drive

When we first brought this in, the set up was smooth and the provided instructions were pretty straight forward. However, make sure you measure out where you want to put the machine first. Avoid putting it in spaces where you have low ceilings, or a low hanging lamp.

The first thing I noticed when I got on the elliptical was its durability, with solid steel construction, and its high quality adjustable, oversized, cushioned, foot pads. This definitely makes it unique from other models in its price range, which don’t usually have adjustable footpads.

This one lends the vibe of an expensive hotel spa, or a nice gym’s equipment. It’s a nice looking piece of equipment, and although looks aren’t everything we do find it more motivating for whatever reason.

The front drive trainer has a powerful thirty pound flywheel, and its SMR (Silent Magnetic Resistance) technology makes the experience an incredibly apartment friendly and condo-friendly option in terms of sound. I could still hear my iPad streaming Netflix over the quiet hum of the wheel, so disturbing your neighbors with this machine won’t be an issue. It also has a 350 pound weight capacity. Neither of us experienced the back pain that was warned about that occasionally happens with front-drive trainers, since you have to lean forward a little.

I was especially impressed by the 7″ Full Color TouchScreen Display and the Android browsing capabilities on its HD screen. Normally, you see 5″ screens without internet capabilities on ellipticals in this price range, so this was such a treat. This machine is also great for the family because it has so many resistance options and an adjustable stride length.

Even though other reviews warn that the stride on this machine may not be very great for shorter people, one of our testers is a 5’3” woman and it’s definitely not overbearing for her.

Overall, the workout was smooth, easy on the joints and definitely provided a satisfying full body workout. However, you do have to gradually come to a stop since the machine has a large inertia.

The only thing to be desired from this model is its warranty. It’s not explicitly stated on Smooth’s website, but after some searching, I found out that the warranty is meager at best, with an offer of only two years.

In comparison to its sister model, the R.E. 11.55, this one is definitely the better deal in our opinion. For starters, the R.E. 11.55 offers only 9 workout apps, as opposed to 30 and has 20 resistance levels, instead of 24. Its electronic and multimedia components are the same. However, it does offer a heavier weight capacity at 400 pounds, incline and decline options, and a better warranty package.

Other machines in this price range, such as the ProForm Smart Stride 735, and the Nordic ACT. Elliptical, both only come with 20 resistance levels. Both companies also provide smaller workout display screens, less built in programs, and a smaller inertia fly-wheel, causing the machine to be louder and harder to use. The warranties and the weight capacities across the three are comparable.

Final Thoughts

The Smooth R.E. 11.35 is a high-quality, budget friendly elliptical, which has a value comparable to the higher-range machines that have comparable features. It has an assortment of features that can be adjustable to all members in your household and is perfect for residential living, as it’s especially quiet. It’s technological add-ins only enhance your workout experience. Overall, if deciding between this one and other ellipticals in the same price range, this one offers much more features, making it a better value.

Make sure you check out the Smooth R.E. 11.35 on Smooth’s official website and see if it’s the right elliptical for you.
